Farm Green Dig Impact Study: Read It Now

Alongside Brighton YAC we’re excited to share the Farm Green Dig Impact Study, celebrating everything our community uncovered together at Bevendean’s Farm Green.

In June 2025, more than 700 people joined us through excavation, workshops, creative activities, and our big community Open Day. The result? A project that strengthened skills, confidence, wellbeing, and local pride, all while revealing new stories about the medieval and post‑medieval farm beneath our feet.

What We Achieved

  • 155 people took part in the dig, from toddlers to grandparents
  • Over 8,000 finds were recovered and analysed
  • 96% of participants learned new archaeological skills
  • 350 visitors joined our Open Day
  • 91% felt more connected to local heritage
  • 86% reported improved wellbeing

Young people played a leading role throughout especially in creating our interactive digital guide, co‑designed by 23 contributors. Our short film captured the atmosphere, stories, and community spirit that made the project so special.

What’s Next

The study shows a clear appetite for more archaeology in Bevendean: longer digs, more youth leadership, SEND‑friendly sessions, and new volunteer pathways. We’re excited to build on this momentum and explore future opportunities together.
