For the last two seasons we have been working with Hale Farm Campsite to offer archaeology clubs and workshops for campers and visitors of all ages.
Hale Farm dates back to the medieval period, with a fifteenth century timber-framed farmhouse and lots of evidence of ancient iron working in the area. So, we have teamed up with Hale Farm and begun a community excavation to unlock thousands of years of the farm’s history!
Our main goal -to facilitate ANYONE who wants to unearth the mysteries of this medieval Sussex farmstead.
Practical Experiences
On site we have access to a forest school area where we assist with experimental archaeology projects and traditional heritage skills.
We also have a teaching trench, where our friendly team of professional archaeologists guide participants through the digging process, identifying artefacts, and experiencing what it's really like to be an archaeologist.

EASTER DIG SCHOOL
Over the Easter we offer themed holiday clubs for 7-12 year olds. Where children experiment with a range of archaeological techniques with emphasis given to exploring ideas practically, using inspiring materials and looking at the processes of contemporary archaeologists working today.
"Your sessions are so inspiring, she's not stopped talking about the day since she got home!" - Parent 2024
SUMMER DIG DAYS
Over the summer months there are opportunities for campers and visitors of all ages to join our dig team on an archaeological excavation for the day.
"Such a wonderful experience for the whole family. It was something a little different and so good to spend time together outdoors!" - Grandparent 2025
Other opportunities...
Whilst at Hale Farm we've also been able to work with other groups, such as Aspire Farm School and really share the joys of archaeology.
WHY IT MATTERS?
These experiences aren’t just fun—they’re foundational. They spark curiosity, build confidence, and help children and adults alike, see themselves as part of a much bigger story. At Archaeodiscovery, we believe archaeology should be playful, practical, and open to everyone. Hale Farm has given us the perfect setting to make that vision real.
Stay Tuned
This season is now drawing to a close and to date we have recovered finds from many periods including Victorian crockery, eighteenth century clay pipes, prehistoric flints and lime waste from the nearby, but yet still undiscovered, kiln.
Investigations are ongoing and we’re already dreaming up new ways to dig deeper in 2026. So stayed tuned for more fun at the farm!
