Flint knapping demo at Archaeodiscovery DIG SCHOOL - hands on archaeology for kids

Half Term Dig School

Over May Half Term, Archaeodiscovery were back running HALF TERM DIG SCHOOL for children aged 7-12 yrs.

Participants work with experienced professional archaeologists, DIGGING, MAKING and DOING.

The dig school is a two-day adventure in archaeology, where children experiment with a range of archaeological techniques.  Emphasis is given to exploring ideas practically, using inspiring materials and looking at the processes of contemporary archaeologists working today.

Through a mixture of structured and open-ended activities this Half Term we explored PREHISTORY!

And of course down at Hale Farm there was lots of opportunities to meet all the animals!

The focus of dig school was on working together, inspiring playfulness and inquisitiveness, through which children can make friends, learn new skills and grow in confidence.

“He really enjoyed today and was very proud of everything he learnt, made and found. I think this is a fabulous camp for curious kids interested in history and archaeology!” — Parent, 2025
